A house, garden and park, perfect for a relaxing visit…
Hanbury Hall was home to the Vernon family for 250 years. The Hall, with its famous wall paintings by Sir James Thornhill, is set within 20 acres of garden and 393 acres of park. The building of the Hall was started in 1701 by Thomas Vernon who made his name practising law in London. It is a beautiful example of a William and Mary-style house built in the warm local red brick. Inside marvel at the rare Axminster carpet that has returned to Hanbury Hall after many years and, upstairs, admire the recently redecorated Hercules rooms. The garden is a spectacular re-creation of George London’s early 18th-century design and includes the Parterre, Fruit Garden and Wilderness. Why not have a go on our Bowling Green with ‘advantage’ and admire the vista down to the Orangery. Surrounding the garden, the park has its origins in the ancient Forest of Feckenham. More recently George London’s early 18th-century formal park landscape is being reinstated. The latest features include The Semi-circle and the two avenues, The Lime Tree Walk and The Long Walk.
